Srinagar, Apr 8: Consumers across Srinagar have complained of persistent delays in the delivery of LPG cylinders, alleging that it now takes up to 20 days to receive supplies, disrupting daily household activities.

Residents said the situation has deteriorated significantly compared to earlier, when cylinders were delivered within a few days of booking.

“Before this crisis, we would get the cylinder the next day or at most within three days. Now, even after waiting for nearly three weeks, there is no certainty,” said a resident of Bemina area of Srinagar.

Another consumer said the delay has made it difficult for families to manage routine cooking needs. “We are forced to make alternate arrangements or borrow cylinders from neighbours. The delay is simply too long and that too in the city,” he said.

Consumers further said that gas agencies have attributed the issue to shortage of supply reaching the valley from outside.

“When we contacted the agency, they told us that the supply is limited and irregular, which is why deliveries are getting delayed,” a group of consumers said.

Officials at some gas agencies acknowledged the delays, citing supply constraints as the primary reason. “There is a shortage in the supply chain, and we are receiving fewer stocks than required. This has affected our delivery schedule,” an official said, requesting anonymity.

The prolonged delays have added to the difficulties faced by households, with many urging the authorities to ensure adequate supply and streamline distribution.

Meanwhile, consumers have appealed to the concerned authorities to intervene and address the issue at the earliest to restore timely delivery of LPG cylinders.

The shortage of LPG cylinders occurred across the valley last month, allegedly linked to the West Asia conflict.

However, Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department, Nazim Zai Khan, acknowledged the issue and assured that it would be resolved soon.

“Our department, along with the Srinagar administration, is working to address the matter and ensure the smooth delivery of LPG cylinders,” he said.
